Hepatitis Profile This panel includes tests for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and a general liver test, ALT. Hepatitis A is a liver disease caused by a virus that is found in food and water. This screening test measures antibody to Hepatitis A in your blood (HAV- IgM). Hepatitis B is a serious liver disease caused by a virus that is transmitted by body fluids. This screening test measures the Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBSAg) and the Hepatitis core antibody (HBV core IgM). Hepatitis C is a serious liver disease caused by a virus that is transmitted by body fluids. It is often not accompanied by a recognizable set of symptoms and signs so infected persons are unaware of having the disease. This test measures antibody to the hepatitis C virus in your blood. If the result is positive, a confirmation by another method is automatically performed. ALT is an enzyme in the blood that is often elevated in the presence of liver disorders. Your report will include your results, an interpretation, and recommendations based on your results.
