COMPLP

Lipids in the blood refer to all types of cholesterol, triglycerides, and other related substances. This group of tests includes all the tests listed for the Cholesterol Panel above plus Lipoprotein(a) and small dense LDL, additional compounds that have been shown to increase the risk for developing atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). Your values will be reported to you along with desirable values for someone of your age and sex, an interpretation of your results, and general recommendations.

Special Instructions:  You should be fasting for 10 to 12 hours before your blood is drawn for this test.

CRP

C-Reactive Protein (CRP) is a compound that increases with inflammation. Recent studies have shown that individuals with high CRP values are at increased risk for coronary heart disease.  The results of this test may be used to assess overall risk which takes into account family history, health history, other laboratory tests and lifestyle factors.  Your report will include the value of CRP in your blood along with reference values.

Special Instructions:  None.

Homocysteine
HOMO

Homocysteine is an amino acid that is normally present in blood.  Elevated levels of homocysteine may indicate an increased risk for heart attack or stroke and a tendency towards excessive clotting.  Homocysteine levels may be elevated due to folate and B-Vitamin deficiencies. Your report will include the value measured in your blood, reference values (the upper and lower limits for most healthy people by gender and age), and an interpretation with general recommendations.

Special Instructions:  None.
